Hope-filled Art - portable & easy to share

Artist Trading Cards
- they were popular in the 1800's -- and in recent years made
a wild resurgence due in large part to the artists on eBay
(who renamed them ACEO; Art Cards, Editions and Originals).
No matter what, remember that they are
ALWAYS 2.5" x 3.5"

I have taken my bird series of paintings
(visit this post HERE for details about the original art)
and added scripture - and reproduced them
in miniature as Artist Trading Cards!

You can get
ALL 5
art cards for just $5.55 right now
- in my etsy shop (HERE)

This special price is for a limited time

THoSE WiSE OLD BiRDS !

...hopeful folk art for children

and the people who love them

Coming soon to my ETSY shop
~ authentic giclee prints of my newest painting series
"WISE OLD BIRDS" !

I created a series of acrylic on canvas folk art paintings - on which I have applied wise words from wise men: John Calvin (French Theologian and pastor during the Reformation, 10 July 1509 – 27 May 1564) , GK Chesterton (English writer, Christian apologist, 29 May 1874 – 14 June 1936), CH Spurgeon (British Particular Baptist preacher, 19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892), William Gurnall (English author and clergyman, 1617 – 12 October 1679), and John Newton (British sailor and Anglican clergyman, writer of "Amazing Grace", 24 July 1725 – 21 December 1807).

What is an authentic GICLEE? I offer a limited number of fine art reproductions labeled "Giclee" in my etsy shop. These are NOT home-printer reproductions! These are professionally printed on a commercial printer by an authorized Epson Giclee master and are printed to heirloom/museum/archival standards on highest quality archival artist paper. They are brighter and more vivid than even the best home prints could ever be and they are, dare I say, better than the originals in intensity and saturation! When I use the term "Giclee" in my shop - I mean it. (Watermarks do not appear on final giclee prints). Each giclee is signed and dated.

I will be placing my Giclee order soon. I will be offering 8x10's and perhaps something close to 5x7. Additionally, there may be a series of blank greeting cards and Artist Trading Cards! I am currently working on 5 more paintings in this same style (owls and cats) - which may or may not have text... Decisions! Decisions!

Please visit my etsy shop (secure payments made through Paypal)
You can see my current selection of giclees by selecting that category on the left.

Stained Glass Paper Painting - huh?

("PLAY" as you visit) - True Colors/Phil Collins

King Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun - yet I keep trying to do my own thing. This week's brain-explosion involved water coloring sections of a painting to look like stained glass - with true dividers (fake leading) created from dimensional paint.

I better show you rather than tell you...

I decided that since this was a whole new adventure that I wanted to take I had better not get hung up on the design aspect and, therefore, by using art I already created (a recycled design kind of thing) - I would not get bogged down on that part - and could thusly (who talks like that - Frasier Crane?) focus on the technique or, in this case, the latest hair-brained scheme.

I took watercolor paper and drew my design onto it lightly - of course I should have measured and been more graphically centered and all that jazz, but I was racing myself to get the idea onto paper before I decided to do something completely different like make an altered doll out of a shoe and an old bone or something...

I next took dimensional paint (that wicked crafty stuff in a bottle that splatters, gets clogged, and at the worst possible moment "burps" and globs driblets where you don't want them; yes, that stuff) and went over my pencil marks. I hoped this would look like stained glass "leading" - kind of. What do you think?

I began to watercolor ... well - at first I grabbed some regular colored pencils that were mixed in with my watercolor pencils - ugh... then I got out my really nifty Holbein WC tubes and saved the day... As I pooled the water my hope was that the lighter areas would mimic light shining through the back of glass... maybe it worked a little?

Anyway - I'll hush now and let Phil sing... (True Colors) ... sing with me...

The final FINAL pictures will be from scans - all squared up nicely and will reflect the 'true colors' (wink) more accurately - I hope. The originals will be listed in my ETSY store soon and giclee reproductions will eventually follow.

You with the sad eyes - don't be discouraged ! oh I realize it's hard to take courage in a world full of people - you can lose sight of it all and the darkness inside you can make you fell so small. But I see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that's why I love you, so don't be afraid to let them show - your true colors -- true colors are beautiful like a rainbow.

Show me a smile then - don't be unhappy. Can't remember when I last saw you laughing. If this world makes you crazy and you've taken all you can bear - you call me up because you know I'll be there. And I'll see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that's why I love you, so don't be afraid to let them show --
your true colors -- true colors are beautiful like a rainbow

Hold the Tuna, I'm allergic

A celebration of color - measuring 7.5" x 11.5" ... painting entirely from my imagination* onto a reclaimed piece of hardwood destined for the fire! *That is to say, regarding my "imagination", you may not expect anatomical accuracy as I take liberties, especially with color, and afterall - my imagination does include things that already exist - already created by The Creator - who is precise and anatomically correct, but also uses wild colors... I follow His lead when it comes to basic shapes and number of fins, but even then I stray... afterall, folk art is a curious thing.
$30

I have used acrylic paints on an up cycled, reclaimed, repurposed piece of milled hardwood - otherwise destined for the fireplace!!! I also have other sizes and more seafood available - many varieties of fish and shellfish … each piece is signed and sealed after photography (to reduce any glare the camera may pick up in order for you to see as much color and detail as possible!!!). The sides are painted - no framing needed!

Collected and salvaged by me - Hanging hardware supplied

The song is ridiculously long - and silly

From sand to sky - starry starry night

Switchfoot -"This is Home" - THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

I love not-too-hot walks along Lake Erie. There are piles of inspiration everywhere along the various wash lines. I stumble and shuffle through the debris ... large trees... pieces of weekend parties offshore (oh those boaters toss some no-no's in the water sometimes!) ...

In those long wisps of wood and beach rubble I see shapes that beckon to me ~~ a fish or a sign or a whimsical creature waiting at the tip of my brush -- I never see just "driftwood". It is like seeing a bunny in a cloud for me ... the wood calls to me to be painted or transformed. I especially like the oldest, deepest wash lines - where the wood has been dried and weathered the most.

When I wander from the older, dried wash lines - I move closer to the lines of pebbles and seek that illusive beach glass we all crave. So many more beachcombers are scouring the edge of the water for it now that there seems to be less. Blue used to be the magic find - but now it is yellow, orange, or red. What or if I find any good sized pieces depends on the lake and what she brings in and when. I was surprised last summer to get a bucket load (literally) after a storm - it is the most beach glass I have ever collected. I still have it in a bucket - waiting for some transformation.

Wood is still the most wonderful for me. Two years ago (about this time) I spent a coldish stormy June day with my family (on my birthday) collecting the best load ever. I ended up drying those treasures and painting about 100 pieces that sold on eBay over the following year. Last spring I went with my son & his friend to another beach nearby and about froze... I have since found my best collecting to be serendipitous - just whenever and wherever - with no assignment in my head... (oh so hard for me!).
And so it has been this spring - on warm Sunday evenings - strolling with my boys and just being calm. I grew up on the very same beaches. When I moved away for college I never would have imagined my life's journey would plant me back along this same water so that my beaches would be my boys' beaches.
God is so kind.

TRUE COLORS

~ PHIL COLLINS ~

(youtube created by Dutchboyjr)

** play and sing along as a prayer for the one love in your heart - that someone you know who has those "sad eyes" ~~ let them know no matter what this world says - they are exquisite just the way they are - and that you love them and their True Colors **

~~ TRUE COLORS ~~

You with the sad eyes ~ don't be discouraged
Oh I realize it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people you can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then, don't be unhappy,
'Can't remember when I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy and you've taken all you can bear
You call me up because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful, like a rainbow
So, sad eyes, discouraged, now realize
When this world makes you crazy and you've taken all you can bear
You call me up because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors and that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors, true colors
Cos there's a shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors, true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Beautiful, like a rainbow

Beach Sand ~ Desert Sand: it's all SAND

Let's go to the beach...

I learned how to play with a new toy - a la the art video.
Here is some of my whimsical & naive folk art on wood - set to an indie song called "Let's go to the beach". When things are free - you can't be too picky - ha ha ... due to copyrights - this music was 'it' -- free from the photo-bucket archives
Kinda geeky - kinda nerdy - kinda sweet
Enjoy...the sand...
