Stained Glass Paper Painting - huh?

("PLAY" as you visit) - True Colors/Phil Collins

King Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun - yet I keep trying to do my own thing. This week's brain-explosion involved water coloring sections of a painting to look like stained glass - with true dividers (fake leading) created from dimensional paint.

I better show you rather than tell you...

I decided that since this was a whole new adventure that I wanted to take I had better not get hung up on the design aspect and, therefore, by using art I already created (a recycled design kind of thing) - I would not get bogged down on that part - and could thusly (who talks like that - Frasier Crane?) focus on the technique or, in this case, the latest hair-brained scheme.

I took watercolor paper and drew my design onto it lightly - of course I should have measured and been more graphically centered and all that jazz, but I was racing myself to get the idea onto paper before I decided to do something completely different like make an altered doll out of a shoe and an old bone or something...

I next took dimensional paint (that wicked crafty stuff in a bottle that splatters, gets clogged, and at the worst possible moment "burps" and globs driblets where you don't want them; yes, that stuff) and went over my pencil marks. I hoped this would look like stained glass "leading" - kind of. What do you think?

I began to watercolor ... well - at first I grabbed some regular colored pencils that were mixed in with my watercolor pencils - ugh... then I got out my really nifty Holbein WC tubes and saved the day... As I pooled the water my hope was that the lighter areas would mimic light shining through the back of glass... maybe it worked a little?

Anyway - I'll hush now and let Phil sing... (True Colors) ... sing with me...

The final FINAL pictures will be from scans - all squared up nicely and will reflect the 'true colors' (wink) more accurately - I hope. The originals will be listed in my ETSY store soon and giclee reproductions will eventually follow.

You with the sad eyes - don't be discouraged ! oh I realize it's hard to take courage in a world full of people - you can lose sight of it all and the darkness inside you can make you fell so small. But I see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that's why I love you, so don't be afraid to let them show - your true colors -- true colors are beautiful like a rainbow.

Show me a smile then - don't be unhappy. Can't remember when I last saw you laughing. If this world makes you crazy and you've taken all you can bear - you call me up because you know I'll be there. And I'll see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors and that's why I love you, so don't be afraid to let them show --
your true colors -- true colors are beautiful like a rainbow

(Cindy Lauper)

"Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right." (Acts 10:34-35)

Exceptional Extravagance

Puttin on The Ritz - Fred Astair

~~~~~~~~~~~~
GLORIOUS EXPECTATIONS
Puttin' on my Ritz
Nothing makes me quite so inspired as the publications that Somerset puts out (Somerset Studio magazine, Belle Amoire, Gallery, and more)... visit STAMPINGTON & CO too be inspired!
I have watched friends and fellow eBay & ETSY artists be featured (which always makes my heart go pitter pat)...
Somerset (and more specifically certain artist-friends) often makes me long to do more, be more, create more... but often I am paralyzed by not feeling my things are pretty, inventive, or wonderfully different "enough" (whatever THAT is!).
YET the pull to TRY ANYWAY triumphs :) - !
I have been collecting old jewelry, new jewelry, this and that, whatnots, and junque for many years for the purpose of assemblage...collage... sculpture.
She has wings when she wears her
LITTLE BLACK DRESS
I have sold such items at Live Art Festivals - but more recently offering them online now is a first... because I have finally stepped out of the shadow (I have been hiding in) to feature my own assemblage creations - little art dolls, brooches (pins), pendants, and ornaments...on ETSY!
I am absolutely in love with them all and I have so many more inside me longing to be created.
I hope you enjoy each and every one of these.
HER LOVE HAS WINGS
may they bless your eyes,
New Category - CUPCAKES
~.~.~.~.~
...it's true... I am endeavoring to recategorize the arty items in my ETSY shop and I will be adding "CUPCAKES" (or some such similar subject)
as a unique category. The thing is - I am also dreaming of cakes and candies and ice cream cones as well - so many sweet items will soon be appearing on
eco-bags, notecards, and in original
paintings (it isn't JUST a cupcake thing anymore... I am expanding my culinarty horizons). Ha ha - culinarty... good new word... I crack me up. In fact - THAT wil be the new category: CULiNARTY (look for it soonish)
Charmed, I’m sure…”
(a new series)
Introducing a new series (otherwise known, in my case, as a rabbit trail) - of charmed jewelry. These necklaces are assemblages of found pieces and what-nots - mostly 'new', but sometimes 'old' mixed in as well.
I always wanted a charm bracelet as a little girl so now I find myself making charm necklaces - ala a little more luxurious :) The various price ranges within the series reflects the varying ingredients, weight, time, and aesthetic. I use new and vintage pieces, but be assured the pieces are silver plated, gold plated, non-lead, and even non-nickel. If, however, you have metal allergies and require pure, precious metals be cautious of these please. I often treat the pieces with stained glass solvents to add patina and age. They are endearing!
I hope you enjoy each and every one.
May they bless your eyes and all who behold you.
Domino giveaway ...
DOMINO ART PENDANT / NECKLACE
GIVE-A-WAY
Measurements: 1" x 2" pendant on an 24" chain (gold plated)
Type: Exceptional DOMINO ART PENDANT NECKLACE ...
mixed media (painting, collage, glaze effects)
Color Theme: gold, tan, chocolate, caramel, and beige
Title: City on Our Knees
Ingredients: domino, acrylic paints (many many many layers), antique crackle medium, glazes, collage image, ric rac ribbon, findings, metallic paint, and love
I have taken an actual game piece domino (not a bead or craft store domino) and created a very lush finish with multiple paint layers, crackle medium and various glazes. There is a rich and glorious textural depth to my handpainting. The collaged image is from a collection created by Debrina Pratt (an amazing artist!). I have added details along the edges and all the dots are painted with metallic leaf. The back side is as pretty as the front - so the pendant is reversible!
City on Our Knees - Toby Mac
If you gotta start somewhere why not here? If you gotta start sometime why not now? If we gotta start somewhere I say here. If we gotta start sometime I say now. Through the fog there is hope in the distance. From cathedrals to third world missions - Love will fall to the earth like a crashing wave...
~~~~~ GIVE - A - WAY ~~~~~

Just post a comment here. In two weeks (September 15th-ish) I will randomly pick a 'post~er' from a 'hat' and announce the winner here (at which time I will need said winner's mailing address). I hope you'll listen to Toby Mac's song while you're here. I have met him on three occasions - he is genuine.

Please take a lookie loo at all the new domino

pendants in my ETSY STORE - :)

MORE MORE MORE coming THIS week!

I Can't Make You Love Me If You Don't

~Bonnie Raitt~
An amazing voice - yes?
I find I get into painting to the point I don't pay attention to what I am painting... in this case I reversed Bonnie (note her "Sweeney Todd" is on the opposite side of her forehead)...
Lovely, melancholy... desperately sad song in this 'tube... listen as you look. The exquisite Bruce Hornsby is on keyboard.

In the last couple of years I have walked a road that until I did I would have never thought I would have survived... and what I know now is that
I have

I can

I will

I have walked through or near heart wrenching betrayal, blasphemy, hate, abondonment, death, disease, suicide, and murder... and I know that in the morning Joy still reigns. I know that my Redeemer lives. Yes.

"I know that my Redeemer lives! * What comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, he lives, who once was dead; He lives, my ever living head! * He lives triumphant from the grave; He lives eternally to save; He lives exalted, throned above; He lives to rule his Church in love. * He lives triumphant from the grave; He lives eternally to save; He lives exalted, throned above; He lives to rule his Church in love. * He lives to grant me rich supply; He lives to guide me with his eye; He lives to comfort me when faint; He lives to hear my soul’s complaint. * He lives to silence all my fears; He lives to wipe away my tears; He lives to calm my troubled heart; He lives all blessings to impart. * He lives to bless me with his love; He lives to plead for me above; He lives my hungry soul to feed; He lives to help in time of need. * He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly friend; He lives and loves me to the end; He lives, and while he lives, I’ll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King! * He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly friend; He lives and loves me to the end; He lives, and while he lives, I’ll sing; He lives, my Prophet, Priest, and King! * He lives and grants me daily breath; He lives, and I shall conquer death; He lives my mansion to prepare; He lives to bring me safely there. * He lives, all glory to his name! He lives, my savior, still the same; What joy this blest assurance gives: I know that my Redeemer lives!"
